My Dearest Child,

Where has the time gone?  I watch you as you stumble in to the kitchen searching for your first cup of coffee.  Creamer, sugar, coffee, and more sugar. It is a far cry from the “coffee milk” you would beg for when you were little.  I sneak a peek just to watch you transform your sleep ladened eyes into this beautiful creation of God’s glory. How you already improve upon that is beyond my comprehension.  You joke with me in the morning and follow me around in the evening, sharing all of your happenings of the day.  I guess some things do stay the same!

This week, you will walk on stage to receive a diploma.  It’s a signal of an end of an era for me; but for you my dear, dear child, it is the trumpet sounding of a new beginning.  As you proudly take that hard earned diploma in hand and march off to new life adventures, there are some things that I would like for you to remember:

1. I’m not going anywhere.  I will always be there for you.  When you are lonely, when you’re happy, excited, sad, I will always be there.  No matter what. I will never be too far away that you can’t reach out to me. I will always be there to give you advice.  A home is not a house but where love resides. Our home, and my love for you, will always be a beacon in the storms of life.

2. Be kind.  Always. The hardest people to love are the ones who need it the most.  You will meet people along your life journey who will try you, say things that are best left unsaid.  Be kind to them anyway. A kind word, a gentle touch, a smile, patient listening are things that even the hardest people crave.  Treat the people around you, even those who you don’t care for, the way that you would want to be treated.

3. Fly. Take off!  Go on adventures!  Seek out new things and experience life.  But be safe, please!

4. Remember who you are.  You were raised with morals and values.  Remember them. Remember that you are a child of God.  Remember Him in your daily walk. When life seems to be dragging you down, remember that you are loved, you are cherished, you are important.  You were put on this earth for a Godly reason; remember that.

What more can I say to you?  You’ve blessed my life with your stubborn ways.  Truly, I despaired that we would even make it this far!  I am so glad we did. I look forward to watching you continue to grow and learn.  There is nothing in this world that you can’t accomplish. Congratulations, my love.  I am so proud of you.

Love,
Mom
