The Vineyard is Jesus’ Church!
Since we are Jesus’ church, we like to think of Jesus as our “Senior Pastor.” He alone has preeminence over all things (Col. 1:18).
One of the ways that Jesus leads his church is through those whom he gifts to serve God’s people. In fact, the Apostle Paul actually refers to those called to serve the Church as gifts themselves (Eph. 4:11-16)! Throughout the New Testament, we find that Jesus leads his Church through teams of his people, the plurality of “pastors” or “leaders” (also referred to as Elders, Bishops, Presbyters, or Overseers, depending on your Bible translation). We find evidence for this in one of the earliest letters of the New Testament (James 5:14), throughout the book of Acts (Acts 11:30; 14:23; 15:2-23; 20:17-38; 21:8), and in the last letters by Paul (1 Tim. 3:1-7; 4:14; 5:17-22; Titus 1:5-9) and by Peter (1 Pet. 5:1-5). In other words, our church leadership is a team of teams!
Our leadership functions as a team of people who are empowered by the Holy Spirit to effectively lead with integrity and skill in the areas that God has called them too!
